Extracted by cold pressing from the fruit peel mature of Citrus medical L. (cedarwood agrumario, cedarwood lemon), citrus fruit of the Rutaceae native of the India north-oriental and of the South Asia — one of the progenitori primari of all the citrus fruits coltivati odierni, insieme to the mandarin and to the pomelo. The cedarwood agrumario is noto for the fruits enormi (up to to 4 kg), with albedo spessissimo and pochissimo succo, cultivated traditionally in Calabria (cedarwood of Calabria IGP), Corsica, Sicily and Costa of Amalfi for the essence, the peel candita and as simbolo religious ebraic (etrog for the festa of Sukkot). The phytochemical profile is dominated by d-limonene (65-80%), β-pinene (6-12%) and γ-terpinene, with linalool and α-terpineol as components minor caratterizzant. The fragrance is more floral and less citrusy-bitter of the lemon classic, with a dolcezza and a complessity caratteristic. In aromatherapy it is used as anxiolytic sweet, mood tonic, carminative and as component of alta quality in the compositions citrusy-floreal. Photosensitizing if extracted for pressofrigido. Top note bright, floral-citrus and sweet.
Calabria (Italy), main centro of cultivation traditional; Greece, Israele, Corfù. Native of the India north-oriental.
