Extracted by steam distillation from the leaves of Pimenta racemous (Mill.) J.W.Moore (bay rum tree, bay, West Indian bay), tree of the Myrtaceae native of the Small Antille (Giamaica, Trinidad, Puerto Rico, Repubblica Dominicana), where grows in the forests pluvial montane. The bay rum tree and to the base of the traditional 'bay rum' of the Antille, a dopobarba/tonic capellare obtained for maceration of the leaves in the rum. From not confondere with the bay laurel European (Laurus nobilis, bay laurel) with which condivide the name common 'bay'. The phytochemical profile is dominated by eugenol (40-60%), myrcene (15-25%) and chavicolo (2-8%), with limonene, linalool and para-cimene.
