Plant description

Extracted by steam distillation from the berries (galbule) mature of Juniperus communis L. (juniper common), shrub or small tree dioico of the Cupressacee with areale circumartic and boreal — from the Scandinavia to the Himalaya, from the Canada to the Patagonia southern — the distribution geografic more vasta among all the species arboree of the pianeta. The berries of juniper are the ingredient botanic fundamental and identificative of the gin (from the French 'genévrier', juniper), over which of the acquavite scandinava aquavit and of numerous liquori europei. The phytochemical profile of the berries is dominated from α-pinene (20-40%), sabinene (15-25%), myrcene (10-20%) and terpinen-4-olo, with α-terpinene and p-cimene as components secondari of rilievo. The terpinen-4-olo is the responsible main of the action diuretic (aumento of the diuresi of the 30% documented) and antiseptic urinaria of the juniper; the α-pinene contributes to the anti-inflammatory properties and broncodilatatorie. In aromatherapy it is used as diuretic and antiseptic of the vie urinary (cistiti, uretrite, renella), tonic of the nervous system, analgesic joint rheumatic, depurative and drenant lymphatic. Contraindicated in the nefropatie severe (can irritare the kidneys infiammati) and during pregnancy. Top-to-heart note fresh, resinous and slightly pepata.
