Obtained for steam distillation from the gommoresina harvested for incisione from Commiphora guidottii Chiov. ex Guid. or Commiphora erythraea (Ehrenb.) Engl. (opoponax, myrrh sweet, bisabol), trees of the Burseracee originari of the Somalia, of the Etiopia oriental and of the Kenya northern. L'opoponax is often confuso with the myrrh common (Commiphora myrrha) with which condivide the habitat and the family, but si distingue for a profile aromatic more sweet, balsmatic and less bitter. The phytochemical profile of the opoponax is dominated from sesquiterpenes — β-bisabolene (20-35%), α-bisabolene and β-caryophyllene — with furanosesquiterpeni caratteristic and small amount of acid boswellic. Compared to the myrrh convenzional, the opoponax has a aroma more morbido with a note floral-vanigliata which the makes particularly ricercato in perfumery for the famiglie oriental and ambrate. In aromatherapy it is used as anti-inflammatory of the mucous membranes respiratory, healing, antiseptic and as fixative of alta quality in the compositions profumiere. Base note warm, balsamic, sweet and slightly fumosa.
