Obtained from the resin balsamic of Myroxylon balsamum (L.) Harms (balm of the Tolu, tolu balsam), large tree of the Fabacee native of the Venezuela northern (regione of Tolu, now in Colombia), where the incisioni praticate on the bark fanno fuoriuscire a resin balsamic liquida of colore yellow-brunastro which solidific to the air. The balm of the Tolu era gia noto in Europe in the XVI century as remedy for the conditions respiratory and as fragrance exotic of the Nuovo World, importato from the prime speditions spagnole. The phytochemical profile is dominated by benzoato of benzyl (20-35%), cannamato of benzyl (20-35%), benzyl-alcohol and acid benzoic — a combination of esters benzoic and cinnamic with properties balsamic, antisettic and cicatrizzant eccellent. The tolu has a fragrance warm, vanigliato-cinnamon with note of flowers bianchi. Fa part of the 'ingredient IFRA sensitizzant' for the risk of allergy in the people predisposti. In aromatherapy and used as expectorant balsamic, antiseptic of the mucous membranes bronchial, healing, antiallergic and as fixative balsamic oriental in perfumery. Base note warm, balsamic, vanigliata and sweet.
