Plant description

Extracted by steam distillation from the leaves and from the twigs of Aloysia citrodora Palau (verbena odorous, verbena lemon, lemon verbena, cedrina), evergreen shrub of the Verbenacee native of the Sudamerica (Cile, Argentina, Peru), today cultivated in the Mediterranean, in Morocco and in Provence. The verbena odorous va distinta from the verbena common (Verbena officinalis) and from the lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus), with which is talvolta confusa in the commercio for the note limoncina. The phytochemical profile is dominated by citral (geranial + neral: 25-45%), 1,8-cineole (10-20%), limonene (10-15%) and caryofillene, with linalool and geraniol as components minor. The citral and the component main responsible of the action antiviral, anxiolytic and antidepressant of the verbena odorous. L'oil and very expensive for the low resa (200-300 kg of leaves for 1 kg of oil); the adulterations with lemongrass or citral sintetic are frequent. In aromatherapy and used as anxiolytic and antidepressant of alta quality, antiviral and antiseptic gentle, digestive and carminative, febbrifuga and tonic general. Bright top note, limoncina, floral-herbaceous and gentle.

Recipes & blends
Anxiolytic and antidepressant raffinato

2 drops Verbena + 3 drops Bergamot + 2 drops Lavender in the diffuser. The verbena and among the oils more efficaci for the anxiety and the depression — fragrance fine and persistent.

Digestive and tonic hepatic

2 drops Verbena + 2 drops Carrot + 2 drops Rosemary verbenone in 20 ml of almond oil. Massage on the ipocondrio destro for the digestion slow and the support hepatic.

2 drops Verbena + 2 drops Mint peppermint + 2 drops Eucalyptus radiata in 20 ml of almond oil. Massage onto wrists and feet in case of fever light for promote the vasodilatation.

1 drop Verbena in 1 cucchiaio of honey + tazza of hot water. The verbena and used classicaly for aromatizzare tisane, dessert and dolci mediterranei (cream cotta, gelatine).

2 drops Verbena + 3 drops Litsea + 2 drops Bergamot as accord of testa-heart. The verbena dona a note limona green of altissima finezza without equal — fragrance of lusso natural.

Contraindications
