Extracted by steam distillation from the flowering tops of Helichrysum gymnocephalum (DC.) Humbert (helichrysum of the Madagascar, helichrysum gymnocephalum, rambiazina), shrub of the Asteraceae endemic of the Madagascar, botanicaly and chimicaly distinto dto the helichrysum italiano (H. italicum) with which not deve be confuso. L'helichrysum of the Madagascar grows in the regions central of the isola (altopiani merina) and is cultivated locally in the ambito of filiere of sviluppo sustainable which integrano the production of essential oils with the conservation of the patrimonio botanic malgascio. The phytochemical profile is dominated by 1,8-cineole (50-70%), with para-cimene, α-terpineol and γ-terpinene as components minor — a composition prevalentely to monoterpenes ossigenati which the differenzia nettaly dto the helichrysum italiano (dominated from nerile-acetate and italidioni cicatrizzant). This composition the avvicina funzionally to the ravensara and to the ravintsara for the antiviral properties, espettorant and immune-stimulating, mentre the activity healing-ecchimotic characteristic of the helichrysum italiano is assente in this species. In aromatherapy it is used as antiviral and immune-stimulating, expectorant of the respiratory tract, antibacterial with broad-spectrum activity and support winter. Top-to-heart note fresh, balsamic and eucaliptoide.
