Extracted by steam distillation from the needles and from the twigs of Pinus cembra L. (pine cembro, cembro, arolla, Swiss stone pine, Zirbe), conifera of the Pinaceae widespread in the Alps and in the Carpathians ad alta elevation (1.800-2.300 m), where forma the ultimi boschi first of the limite of the trees. The pine cembro and one of the trees more longevi of the Alps, with individui which vivono over 1.000 years, and the its wood aromatic has traditionally rivestito the pareti of the camere from letto alpine for the properties calmant and favorent the sleep. Studies of the Universita of Graz (Austria) have documented which the fragrance of the pine cembro (zirbe) reduces the heart rate in sleep of the 3.5% and improves significativaly the quality of the riposo. The phytochemical profile is dominated by alpha-pinene (25-40%), delta-3-carene (15-25%), beta-pinene and bornyl-acetate, with limonene and myrcene. In aromatherapy the pine cembro and used as sedative of the nervous system simpatic, tonic of the ritmo circadiano and of the quality of the sleep, analgesic muscular and purifying environmental alpine with effect grounding. Top-to-heart note fresh, resinous and slightly balsanic with reminiscenze alpine.
