Extracted by steam distillation from the leaves of Eucalyptus dives Schauer (eucalyptus dives, broad-leaved peppermint), tree of the Myrtaceae endemic of the altopiani of the New South Wales and of the Victoria in Australia, where grows on suoli poveri and roccious among the 600 and the 1.200 m. The dives si distingue from the other eucalipti for the phytochemical profile completaly different: invece of the 1,8-cineole dominant in AND. globulus and AND. radiata, the AND. dives contains mainly piperitone (40-60%) — a chetone monoterpenic with properties mucoregolant eccellent — with α-phellandrene (15-30%) and terpinen-4-olo. The piperitone is the component responsible of the action mucoregolant (not only expectorant but which reduces the viscosity of the mucus) which makes the AND. dives recommended in the bronchitis with mucus viscosissimo and difficile from espettorare. Contraindicated in children under the 12 years (the piperitone is neurotossic to the doses high). In aromatherapy is the eucalyptus of choice for the bronchitis cronic and the bronchiectasie, the BPCO and the situations with phlegm persistent. Top note fresh, mentholated and medicinal.
